THE Deershed Festival – one of the newest and most successful family music festivals – proved it goes from strength to strength following another sell-out event.

This year’s family music festival, at Topcliffe, near Thirsk, had been modestly increased in size but sold out seven weeks’ in advance.

The three day Deershed Festival 6 began on Friday (July 24) and featured dozens of acts including headline acts Billy Bragg, The Unthanks and John Grant.

The event was set up by parents Kate and Oliver Jones, who had suffered bad experiences when bringing their young children to music festivals and decided to hold their own.

The focus is on adults and children alike having a good time, and has grown from strength to strength since the first one launched.

This weekend’s event experienced some light rain on Sunday, which failed to dampen the spirits of festival-goers.

One of the organisers posted on Facebook: “John Grant has just closed the main stage with a fantastic show that began with a spontaneous rendition of Happy Birthday from the Deer Shed crowd and ended with a cameo from Villagers.

“It's been another beautiful day at Deer Shed.”
