YOUNGSTERS and a development company have teamed up to celebrate World Nature Conservation Day – by planting trees.
Children from Carlton Miniott primary school near Thirsk partnered Taylor Wimpey to plant trees at the company’s Kingfishers development.
World Nature Conservation day – which actually falls on July 28 - is an international event to raise awareness of wildlife preservation and protect the natural environment.
School head Steve Crocker described the tree planting as an exciting initiative for a good cause.
“We know how important it is to teach our children the importance of protecting the environment from a young age, making the tree planting activity perfect,” he said.
Debbie Whittingham, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey, added: “Protecting the environment is at the forefront of our ethos and this is something we were keen to educate the children of Thirsk about.
“The tree planting exercise with the school was a lot of fun, and we’re glad that the group enjoyed the experience.”
The school is just a short distance from the Kingfisher development which currently features a range of two- and three-bedroom homes, from £179,950.
