A SCHOOL is celebrating the achievements of two brothers and a 12-year-old girl who have bowled over county selectors with their cricketing talents.
Thirsk School and Sixth Form College pupils Ben and Harry Collinson have been picked to represent North Yorkshire, while Phoebe Turner has been selected to play for Yorkshire, after impressing as all-rounders.
John Wharton, head of PE, said the students' success followed that of former pupils and Yorkshire County Cricket Club players Ben Coad and Karl Carver.
He said Ben Collinson, 12, who opens the batting, had excellent technique, while his pace bowling team-mate Phoebe had shown good consistency in line and length.
The patience and technical ability of Harry, 15, has seen teams build their innings around his performances.
Mr Wharton said: "The school is very proud of the achievements of all three players.
"They have done extremely well to gain representative honours at this high level.
"The time and effort they have spent improving their cricket is a credit to them."
He said while the school held twice weekly training sessions for pupils and entered all the cricket cups to provide pupils with opportunities to develop, the pupils' success was largely due to their and their parents' dedication and a good network of clubs in the Thirsk area.
