NORTH-EAST rock bands are set to line up alongside seasoned chart acts at a four-day music festival.

Bessie and the Zinc Buckets and the Charlotte Yanni Band from South Shields will share the bill at the Willowman festival in Knayton, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, with Echo and the Bunnymen, Peter Hook and the Light, Hazel O’Connor and Dreadzone.

Festival organisers said Bessie and the Zinc Buckets appearance would see a large South Tyneside presence at the event, held over the Solstice weekend from tomorrow (Thursday, June 18).

Other acts from the region on the bill include Sunderland’s Frankie and the Heartstrings, The Alan Hull Songbook, featuring Dave Hull-Denholm and Ian Thomson from Lindisfarne, Big Red and the Grinners, Ashington’s The Carl Cape Band, Shoot the Poet and White Negroes from Hartlepool and Martha from Durham.

Festival director Steve Williams said: “The Bessies tore the roof off the Willow Wobbly stage last year, so we have promoted them to the main stage for 2015.

"According to our online ticket software South Tyneside is proving to be a real hotspot of Willowman fans, so it’s only right that we reward that with a bit of local talent."
