A POLICE force has appealed for drivers to remain patient when confronted with a crash scene after motorists drove over evidence following a serious collision.

North Yorkshire Police has issued the plea after the scene of a crash in which a moped rider sustained serious leg and head injuries after a head-on collision with a car on a road running alongside the A1(M) was disturbed.

A 20-year-old man from the Sinderby area, near Thirsk, was taken to James Cook University Hospital after the crash, which happened at 10.30pm on Saturday (May 30) on the A6055, near Ainderby Quernhow, North Yorkshire.

The incident involved a grey Lexus IS220D heading north and a grey Peugeot moped travelling in the opposite direction on the Old North Road between the roundabout for the B6267 and the roundabout with the A61, close to Leeming Lane Farm.

Police said the rider's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

TC Ken Riley, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am aware of a number of people who deliberately drove through the scene of the collision and moved valuable pieces of evidence in doing so.

“The location of debris within a scene could be vital to our enquires.”

Anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision should call police on 101 or email ken.riley@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
