A LANDLORD and developer are creating a new community development to provide valuable new extra care provision in the Thirsk area.

Tristar Homes is working in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council to create and extra care scheme at Sowerby Gateway.

It will comprise 26 two-bedroom bungalows and an extra care facility including 64 one-and-two-bedroom apartments for rent, shared ownership or sale.

It will also include shops and a café/bistro for residents and the wider local community.

Tristar is part of the Thirteen Group and their director of development Martin Hawthorne said: “Sowerby Gateway will enhance the area’s strong sense of community and encourage residents to socialise with their neighbours as well as others living nearby who will be attracted by the café/bistro and shops.

“This extra care facility is creating an important provision for Thirsk and the surrounding areas by delivering high quality, modern homes designed to meet the needs of local people who will benefit from its specialist features.”

The county council is currently planning to expand extra care into every major town in North Yorkshire.

“We believe this is the way ahead for our communities,” said Cllr Clare Wood, the executive member for health and adult services.

“Extra care has won widespread acclaim for the way in which it allows people to live independent, happy, and supported lives.

“We want to put extra care at the heart of our communities and to plan ahead for current and future generations.”
