A 90-year-old driver killed in a head-on crash on the A168 in North Yorkshire last week has been named as James Charles Hanwell, from Ampleforth, near Thirsk.
The accident happened on the road half a mile north of Thornton le Street, between Thirsk and Northallerton on Monday January 5 when Mr Hanwell’s Peugeot 306 was involved in a collision with an oncoming Vauxhall Minerva.
A 29-year-old mother of two from Northallerton was airlifted to hospital with chest injuries, her two sons aged eight and six had minor cuts and bruises.
North Yorkshire police say an inquest has been opened into Mr Hanwell’s death, and adjourned to a date to be fixed.
