A CENTENARIAN who has spent her life in the farming industry celebrated her landmark birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Doris Robinson, born into a farming family on December 9, 1914, has lived in North Yorkshire all her life, attending Easingwold School before moving to Baldersby, near Thirsk, in 1930.

It was there she met her husband, Charles Robinson, and they married in 1941 and later had two children, Peter and Marion.

They farmed in nearby Skipton-on-Swale until their retirement in 1979 when they moved to a bungalow in Thirsk.

Mrs Robinson now has four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, and lives in Gillings Court in Thirsk.

Her daughter Marion Fairbairn said: “Mum's party, which was held in the communal room at Gillings Court, was in a vintage tea party theme with floral china, cake stands, ivy and flowers.

“There were lots of lovely homemade cakes which people had kindly made for us, and her granddaughter Lucy, made the birthday cake.”

“My brother, husband and I were there, along with her four grandchildren and great granddaughter, as well as several nephews and nieces, some of whom she hadn’t seen for a while so she had a lovely time catching up with them.

“Some of her closest friends were there, and although she asked people not to bring presents she received three lovely flower displays, and of course the card from the queen - which she is really thrilled with.”
