AN EGG farmer has laid down a challenge for baking enthusiasts as part of a drive to reduce food waste.

James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs, based at Catton, near Thirsk, has invited people inspired by The Great British Bake Off and Britain’s current baking craze to tweet pictures of their efforts to be in with a chance of winning £50.

The firm said more Britons are baking than ever before, with sales of baking products rising by 62 per cent since 2007, while sales of its eggs had risen by 30 per cent in the last year.

The challenge coincides with British Egg Week, which is highlighting how egg dishes can help to use up leftovers.

Adrian Potter, a director at the firm, said: ‘We’ve seen a huge craze for baking in recent months, due in part to the success of the Great British Bake Off.

“We wanted to launch a competition that encourages people to get creative in the kitchen, and get the whole family involved in baking with fresh free range eggs.

“We wish there was a way we could taste the results for ourselves, but we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s pictures and the imaginative ideas they come up with."

Entrants can tweet a picture of their bakes to @JamesPotterEggs company Twitter page and are asked to mention of James Potter eggs in their tweet, along with the hashtag #JPBakeOff or #JPBO .
