AN egg farmer has raised £25,000 for an air ambulance service after running more than 100 miles in less than 24 hours.

Adrian Potter, a director at James Potter Yorkshire Free Range Eggs, at Catton, near Thirsk, ran the equivalent of nearly four marathons in a day to complete the St Oswald’s Ultra event.

The 37-year-old set off from Lindisfarne, Northumberland, and after running virtually non-stop for 23 hours and 56 minutes, he cross the finish line at Chollerford, near Hexham, in third place.

He said: “My feet are in pieces, with blisters the size of eggs, and with 20 miles to go I really just wanted to stop because of the pain, but it was worth it.

“The scenery was stunning, including five castles, beaches, moors and forests.”

Mr Potter said he was now resting ahead of The Yorkshire Marathon, in York, on October 12.

With £1,500 of sponsorship for the epic run, the family firm has raised more than £25,000 over the last two years for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s base at RAF Topcliffe, near Thirsk, which is based a few fields away from their farm.

The service needs £9,990 a day to keep its two helicopters in the air.
