A HAIRDRESSER is set to line up alongside Olympic medallists Jonny and Alistair Brownlee to raise funds in memory of her father.

Fiona Curry, 31, who co-owns Hairport, in Thirsk Market Place, will swim 750metres, cycle 26kms and run 5.5kms in the Brownlee Triathlon at Harewood House, near Leeds, tomorrow (Sunday, September 21).

Miss Curry is raising funds for the charity, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, after losing her father, Geoffrey, aged 64, to leukaemia, in 2006.

The event will be Miss Curry’s third and toughest triathlon.

She has previously raised £2,500 for charity by doing a triathlon and a sponsored 100km cycle ride, and holding a “cut-a-thon” at her salon.

Miss Curry, who lives in Pickhill, near Thirsk, said: “Since I lost my dad eight years ago, I changed how I look at life.

“If what I do helps to raise money for this worthy charity, then it’s worth the pain-staking training programme I put myself through.

“When I am struggling with a run in wet and windy weather, or my swimming sessions feel as if I’m wading through treacle, it’s nothing compared to the times I saw my dad suffering.

“I want to give something back to the charity for their research into new ways of beating blood cancer.

"My dad tried several drugs, but he became immune to them.

"If what I am doing will help just one person, it will have been worth it.”

Miss Curry is aiming to raise at least £500 from the event.
