JOURNALISTS from China have been getting a quintessential taste of Yorkshire – courtesy of the late and great James Herriot.
A nine-strong group were on a fact-finding visit to the region when they were given a VIP tour of the World of James Herriot centre in Thirsk.
The visit was arranged by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire, together with VisitBritain and Virgin Atlantic.
The centre is on the site of the surgery made famous in books, film and TV by local vet Alf Wight using the pen-name James Herriot and the group were welcomed by managing director Ian Ashton.
Following the visit, he also presented a Chinese language version of the book All Creatures Great and Small to the leader of the group, Tamily Liu.
“This visit is another example of the importance of the World of James Herriot to its world wide audience,” he said.
“We have visitors from all over the world and this is one of the many throughout the year from schools, veterinary colleges and universities.
“To have welcomed so many journalists from China in one visit is excellent news for us.”
The attraction recently launched the James Herriot Statue and Legacy Fund, an initiative to encourage people interested in animal welfare and veterinary work inspired by the famous vet.
