A WOMAN who has dedicated herself to working for her local community has been honoured for her efforts.

Thirsk Rotary have presented their Family and Community Service Award to Abigail Homer, chief executive of local youth organisation the Clock.

Spokesman Malcolm Sollitt said the award had been made in “recognition of outstanding service to families and communities.”

In his presentation address he said: “We cannot praise her enough for the tremendous strides she has made in developing the Clock to what it now is, a very valued and respected service that supports our young people.”

Rotary only rarely makes the award. Past winners include the local district nurses team and Thirsk in Bloom.

Mr Sollitt added: “It really shows the high regard Thirsk Rotary members have for Abigail, for her efforts and for her achievements at the Clock since she helped Churches Together in Thirsk to get it off the ground in 2002.”
