A GOLF club store which was left in ruins after it was raided by thieves has reopened after weeks spent repairing the damage.

The Pro Store at Stokesley Golf Range was one of several in the region to be targeted by thieves in January this year.

Manager Steve Sample said it was left looking “like a bomb had gone off” after the burglary just before midnight on January 11. The shop’s heavy safe was taken, along with computers, printers and two cash tills, which were all ripped from the walls along with the store counter, causing extensive damage.

The shop was already in the process of being redecorated and tins of paint were also knocked over, spilling across the carpets.

After a month of repairs, the shop reopened on Monday (February 5).

Mr Sample said: “Everything is done now; all the refurbishment and redecorating. It’s been a lot of work, but great to have it all done.”

Raiders hit Stokesley three days after Saltburn Golf Club was targeted, at about 10pm on Monday, January 8, when a large quantity of golf equipment was taken.

Cleveland Police said four suspects, all wearing dark clothing, approached the premises in a black 4x4 vehicle.

There were unconfirmed reports there was a police pursuit of the vehicle which had to be called off on safety grounds.

Knaresborough Golf Club, on Boroughbridge Road in the town was burgled between 8.30pm on Friday, January 5 and 8.45am on Saturday, January 6, when two racing green Yamaha Exgo H golf buggies were stolen.
