A NEW housing development in Stokesley has been named with the help of local school children.

Kier Living Northern decided to use street names from a previous competition asking pupils to come up with new using the theme ‘nature’.

The response was so successful that the best names were held in a directory ready to use for any future developments in Stokesley.

The names chosen for the development include The Firs, Blackbird Close and Berry Lane.

Councillor David Webster, portfolio holder for planning, said: “The district council has the legal responsibility to ensure that all streets and properties in the Hambleton area are named and numbered correctly.

“And with a number of large planning applications coming forward across the district coming up with innovative names is a constant challenge.

“By involving the younger members of our community, we get some fresh ideas and it gives them a sense of pride and involvement.”

David Mackintosh Kier Living Northern added said they were “delighted” with the names.
