A NEW food store and petrol station has opened in a North Yorkshire village.

The new James Hall Spar store opened in Hutton Rudby following the redevelopment of the Greaves Garages site on Garbutt Lane.

The opening was attended by past and present staff and owners of the business.

Store manager Sarah Hounsome cut the red tape together with members of the Milburn family, who had owned the family-run business in Hutton Rudby prior to James Hall taking over the Spar business.

Middlesbrough FC mascot Roary the Lion also attended, and greeted customers to the new shop at its official opening recently.

The store, which opens from 7am until 10pm, also includes a delicatessen.

The redevelopment of the former garage also included the addition of a larger Shell filling station and an ATM cash machine on the site.
