THERESA "Hay,” the tenor from the Go Compare advert and a couple of Donald Trumps all made their appearance at a village scarecrow festival.

Appleton Wiske, near Stokesley, held its two-day festival this weekend and it seemed villagers were this year inspired by the world of politics when it came to their front garden creations.

More than a dozen households got involved in the event.

Prince William and Kate and Theresa May both appeared on the village’s scarecrow trail, whilst likenesses of Donald Trump also featured.

There were prizes on offer for children who completed the treasure hunt and the chance to have a go at making scarecrows or try locally-made cakes in the village hall. An art exhibition was also staged in the village’s chapel and church, where quilts made by local residents were on display.
