AFTERNOON tea and hats in the surroundings of a North Yorkshire historic home have helped raised thousands for charity.

The Stokesley and District Marie Curie fundraising group recently organised the elegant event at Rudby Hall near Great Ayton.

People were offered a glass of Prosecco on arrival and there then followed a fashion show of hats and fascinators by Get Ahead Hats of Welbury, whose owner, Nicky Sadler showed some of her creations with the help of models.

The event finished with afternoon tea prepared and served by Coghlans of Barningham, which raised £2,130.

The fundraising group was set up in 2005 by five local women and has since raised tens of thousands of pounds for the charity.

They stage an array of fundraising activities and social functions throughout the year and also help with the charity’s annual March daffodil collections on local streets and stores.

Chairman of the fundraising group, Jean Noble thanked everyone involved in staging the event.
