A PHOTOGRAPHER who captured rare portrayals of the everyday lives of Benedictine Nuns is exhibiting his work at their North Yorkshire monastery.
Newsquest photographer Mike Swift met the nuns when he photographed them receiving an EASA (Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association) Award for converting Crief Farm in Wass into the Stanbrook Abbey monastery.
Mr Swift believed the building would be nothing without the inhabitants and decided to document life in the abbey.
He visited the Sisters last July and photographed their daily life over a number of visits.
The pictures formed part of an exhibition at the EASA 2017 Awards and were shown for one month at The Old Court Arts Centre in Windsor.
The exhibition now has a permanent home at Stanbrook Abbey itself in Wass and Mr Swift said: “I am delighted that the images will now be on show in the abbey itself. “Over the last 18-months I have become very fond of the sisters there and it has been an absolute privilege to work with them and one of the best projects I have worked on. “I would encourage people to go and see the pictures and make a donation to the abbey, it is a fantastic place of peace and tranquility.”
