A BIKER died after he lost control of his machine and crashed into a telegraph pole, an inquest heard.

Carl Fowell, 51, was riding his Honda CBR 600RR along the A170 towards Sproxton on August 31, 2017, when he left the road and hit the pole.

An inquest held on Wednesday heard that Mr Fowell was found by a farmer who was returning a tractor to a nearby farmyard.

In a statement read by coroner Michael Oakley, Stephen Wilson said something caught his eye on the roadside but he was not sure what it was.

He dropped the tractor off and returned to the scene, finding Mr Fowell’s body after searching the verge on foot.

Traffic Constable David Taylor said there was no evidence that any other vehicle was involved in the crash.

He said that Mr Fowell did not have the correct licence for the bike he was riding, saying his A2 licence restricted him to motorcycles under 395cc.

Mr Fowell, of Marton, Middlesbrough, died of multiple injuries and a verdict of accidental death was recorded.

Speaking afterwards, his son Jason Fowell, 29, said: “He was an amazing person and a brilliant dad.”

He added that his dad was “sensible and law-abiding” and believed he had an unrestricted licence.
