A HOME was broken into and set on fire yesterday evening, in a suspected arson attack in North Yorkshire.

Police are investigating after a three-storey terraced home at Howe End in Kirkbymoorside, Ryedale, was targeted at about 9pm on Wednesday, December 20.

Police say entry was forced into the property and a small fire started in the living room, causing damage to furniture and the inside of the room.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the living room suffered fire, heat and smoke damage and the rest of the home was also damaged by smoke.

Nobody was injured in the fire and police say there have not been any arrests at this stage.

Fire crews from Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley used two hose reel jets, a triple extension ladder and thermal imaging cameras in tackling the fire.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers investigating the circumstances of the incident are appealing for local people to come forward with any information that could assist enquiries, particularly anyone seen entering the property over recent days.”
