A TOWN’S Christmas lights appeal is within touching distance of reaching £10,000 and its fundraising group is urging for one last push.

Helmsley in Business has been fundraising for Christmas lights for the town since 2012 and has raised almost £10,000 through a combination of events.

A further £400 has been donated by Helmsley Town Council, along with a generous donation from MAG (Motorcycle Action Group).

To help tip the fundraising over the £10,000 mark, the group has circulated envelopes to households within the local area, asking for any monetary contributions to help light up Helmsley.

Jacky Pickering, chair of Helmsley in Business, who runs The Stick Man with husband Keith, said: “Everyone loves Christmas lights, and we want to give the town the display it deserves. Helmsley is such a beautiful town all year round, but especially in winter - it’s magical.”

The switch-on takes place on December 2 at 5pm, and will be performed by TV celebrity, Julian Norton – the Yorkshire Vet.

Donation envelopes can be left at Helmsley Outdoors.
