THE couple killed in a horrific accident on the A164 in North Yorkshire last month have now been named by police.

They were Charles McLaughlin, 53, and Judith McLaughlin, 58, from Welburn, near Malton, and all close relatives have now been informed about the deaths.

The tragedy happened at around 10.55pm on June 23 and it is believed Mr and Mrs McLaughlin were crossing the road from north to south at a bus stop - near the junction to Welburn - when the collision occurred with a white Vauxhall Mokka that was travelling east towards Scarborough.

The driver of the Vauxhall Mokka, a man aged in his 50s from the Wakefield area of West Yorkshire, and his wife in the passenger seat, were uninjured but suffered from shock following the collision.

Police enquiries are continuing in an effort to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

  • Witnesses or anyone who recalls seeing the man and woman or the white Vauxhall Mokka before the incident are urged to contact police on 101, select option two and ask for Gemma Wood or email gemma.wood@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
