CONCERNED residents have formed an action group calling for improved safety on a busy road on which four pedestrians have died in recent weeks.
The A64 Road Safety Action Group will press for improvements to be made to safeguard users of the York to Malton road
It includes representatives from the villages of Crambeck, Welburn, Whitwell, Crambe and Huttons Ambo.
Carol Sollitt, the neighbourhood watch co-ordinator for Crambeck, said: "We have formed a group of residents from each of the villages affected to pull together and take our campaign forward.
"Our immediate concern is local residents' safety when getting from A to B and for those who use the buses.
"We have been promised support by various public figures and bodies and we will hold them to their promises."
A man and a woman in their 50s were hit by a small white SUV while crossing the road on June 23 - just weeks after Dave Tinker, 50, and Julie Gough, 52, were killed when they were hit by a minibus as they tried to cross.
