STUDENTS recently took part in the first ever dressage demonstration at a leading independent school.

Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire held its annual Exhibition Weekend recently, a celebration of pupil’s talents and an opportunity for them showcase their work to current parents.

As part of the event, pupils provided a dressage display within the school grounds.

Ampleforth College's equestrian team has enjoyed a number of successes in recent months, including at the National Schools Equestrian Association competitions.

Equestrianism is one of the 50 extra-curricular activities available to students at the college in Ryedale and provides an opportunity for students to take part in riding and polo lessons.

Those who live locally with their own horses can also represent Ampleforth College in dressage, show jumping and eventing competitions.

The Exhibition Weekend began with Mass in Ampleforth Abbey, followed by a special supper for young people and their families.

It also involved prize giving, essay awards and showcased other creative talents. A special performance of The Railway Children by Year's 9 and 10 was also staged for the weekend.
