A MAN has died after a crash which left his car upside down on its roof.

The man is believed to have been the driver of the blue MINI Cooper, which crashed at about 9.50pm yesterday on the A169 Malton to Pickering road.

The collision took place near the Black Bull Inn when the car veered off the road, smashed through a fence and ended up on its roof in a garden.

Fire crews freed the two occupants and one, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man, in his 20s and believed to be the passenger, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Both men are from the Ryedale area of North Yorkshire, but their names have yet to be released.

Police are particularly keen to trace the driver of a small, green vehicle who temporarily stopped nearby and may have witnessed the collision.
