A TEENAGE girl will appear in court next week, charged with biting a female police officer.

North Yorkshire Police were called to a disturbance at a property in Avenue Grove, Harrogate at about 8.50pm on Friday.

A spokeswoman said a 16-year-old girl was arrested at the scene on suspicion of breach of court bail conditions and taken to Harrogate custody suite.

She said: “While at Harrogate police station, a woman police officer was bitten by the suspect.

“The 16-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting a policing officer and later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.”

The Harrogate Investigation Hub shared an image of the nasty bite wound on social media yesterday, and called the incident “shocking”.

The officer received medical treatment for the wound to her arm, and has been tested for a number of transmittable diseases, including HIV.

The girl is due to appear before magistrates on Tuesday.
