ONE of the founding fathers of a North Yorkshire museum has been honoured for 50 years of dedication.
Gordon Clitheroe helped set up the Beck Isle Museum 50 years ago to preserve and display the history of Pickering, where he has lived since he was four.
He has put untold hours into the museum’s promotion and development as chairman, curator, and now trustee of the museum and the collection has grown to some 60,000 objects and catalogues Pickering’s rich history as a rural market town.
The Ryedale Lions Club, which also began in 1967, presented him with their annual Certificate of Appreciation for his tireless efforts..
President David Warin said: “As we mark 50 years of the Ryedale Lions, it is entirely fitting that this award goes to somebody who has also given 50 years of outstanding community service to Ryedale.”
