TWO churches in Ryedale have been hit by thieves as five people have reported money or purses stolen on Sunday.

The thefts happened at the Plough Sunday Service at Marton Mission Room, and the Church of St Laurence at Kirby Misperton, both on Sunday.

Police have released a description of a vehicle seen at the scene of Sunday’s theft, tweeting that people are advised to look out for a gold Fiat Punto with a missing drivers’ side wheel trim.

In another incident on January 7, two purses were stolen from St Nicholas Church in Wigginton, York, while a children’s party was taking place.

Anyone who recognises the vehicle is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 12170004369.

People are advised not to leave valuables unattended.
