A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a four-vehicle collision on a major road.

North Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident, which happened on the A19 near Selby at 6.20pm on Friday.

About half a mile north of Chapel Haddlesey, at the junction with Fox Lane, a Citroen C1 car, a grey Ford Ranger pick-up truck, a VW Jetta car and blue Honda motorcycle were involved in a collision.

Sadly, the 24-year-old man riding the motorcycle, who is from the Goole area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The section of road was closed to traffic until 3am on Saturday while police carried out a full investigation.

The driver of the grey Citroen C1, a 25-year-old man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicious of causing death by careless driving. Following questioning, he was released on police bail to allow time for further investigation.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision, or anyone who recalls seeing any of the vehicles involved prior to the incident, to come forward as soon as possible. This includes any motorists who came across the collision scene after it occurred, but did not stay to speak with the police.
