A NORTH Yorkshire vineyard has been celebrating after winning two medals at a county-wide food and drink awards ceremony.

Ryedale Vineyards, wine-makers based by the village of Westow, near Malton, won both the Best Yorkshire Wine and also the Supreme Product 2016 awards for their Dalesman White Sparkling wine at the Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards, held recently at Pavilions of Harrogate.

The winning bottle was praised by judges: “With peachy notes and punchy bubbles, this wine smells fresh and enticing.”

They went on to say: “Clean and refreshing it’s certainly very drinkable and a real Yorkshire treat.”

The judges added that the inclusion of the wine at the awards highlighted the high regard in which locally-produced wines are now held.

Ryedale Vineyards is a family-run business, which was started just ten years ago, in 2006, by Stuart and Elizabeth Smith.

Their vineyard is believed to be the most northerly in England and they have now been producing award-winning wines since 2009.
