BUSINESS owners, councillors and residents have voiced anger and frustration as a town has been brought to a virtual standstill due to roadworks.
Repair work started in Church Street in Norton, near Malton, once described as one of the worst roads in the county, two weeks ago, with a diversion via St Nicholas Street.
However, temporary traffic lights have also been put up in Wold Street, leading traffic to back up in Langton Road, Wood Street and Commercial Street.
Local councillor Di Keal said: “The work is essential as the road has been in a dreadful state for years, but NYCC (North Yorkshire County Council) could have made the process quicker and less disruptive by working overnight and at weekends.”
