A THEME park has been awarded a gold award for its conservation work in managing and protecting habitats on its site.

Flamingo Land Resort Yorkshire, at Kirby Misperton near Malton, claimed the David Bellamy Gold Award which commends the park for its work to look after ecosystems and flora and fauna within the 375 acre site, as well as managing energy and its carbon footprint.

“This award recognises the work we have done in partnership with our CIRCLE team to protect the environment within the park but also our commitment to developing the natural habitats,” said Dr Andrew R. Marshall, director of conservation science at Flamingo Land Resort Yorkshire, and senior lecturer at the University of York. “Earlier this year we were proud to have planted our 10,000th tree as part of a five year programme with the Woodland Trust’s MOREwoods scheme. David Bellamy Awards are given to holiday parks which demonstrate ongoing commitment to helping wildlife, saving resources and working to protect and enhance the environment.
