BURGLARS have wrecked a community social club and stolen cash and goods in a raid which police have described as “deeply sickening”.
The incident at recreation club at Pickering Town FC in Mill Lane, between midnight and 7am on Wednesday, left more than £1,000 of damage.
The offenders broke a window and forced five doors to reach the bar area of the premises, before taking hundreds of pounds of cash from gaming machines and a pool table, which were also damaged in the raid, as well as bottles of alcohol. After the raid, volunteers spent a day working to repair the club.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “This is clearly a crime against the local community and is deeply sickening to those who do so much to support grassroots sport and activities.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
