A NORTH Yorkshire man has completed an epic challenge to support people living with dementia after his grandfather was diagnosed with the condition.
Scott Caul, a senior physiotherapist at Malton Hospital, took part in Ironman UK in Lancashire.
The challenge included a 2.4-mile swim in open water followed by a 112-mile followed by completing a full marathon.
Scott said: “Personally, my family has been affected by dementia. My grandad is currently living with dementia and it’s a condition a lot of our patients and carers live with.
“Completing the Ironman was the best thing I have ever done - but never again. My finish time was 13 hours seven minutes 54 seconds - one hour 22 minutes for the swim, cycling for six hours 38 minutes and running for four hours 45 minutes.”
He had hoped to raise £1,488 for the Alzheimer’s Society to take him over the £10,000 mark of funds he has raised forcharities over the years.
“The total I actually raised was £2,243 with gift aid, which is absolutely humbling,” he said.
