TV personality Katie Price is to launch a dramatic show at the most visited paid tourist attraction in Yorkshire and the North-East.

The 38-year-old model - also known as Jordan - will visit Flamingo Land, which attracted more than 1.5 million visitors in 2014 - more than York Minster, Beamish and Gibside combined - to unveil The Black Heart, a galleon at the centre of a live production show The Pirates of Zanzibar, on Saturday, at 11am.

Management of the theme park said show, the which will be performed three times a day, will tell the story of a crew descended from the infamous Spice Pirates of 1779, when spices were the most valuable items in the world, alongside “acts of the darkest skulduggery and “breath-taking fight scenes”.

After reaching the East African Coast, the Spice Pirates invaded the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar, which became the heart of their empire.

Sarah Mills, director of marketing at the attraction in Kirby Misperton, near Pickering, said: “We are delighted that the time has come to open our latest attraction which promises to be a swashbuckling adventure for all the family.”
