STAFF and customers of North Yorkshire-based Thomas the Baker have raised £11,500 for Marie Curie nurses.

Employees from across 34 bakery branches and the head office in Helmsley have taken part in a variety of fundraising events throughout the year in support of the charity.

From supporting the Great Daffodil Appeal by creating and selling “Daffodil cupcakes”, to displaying collection tins and organising sponsored walks, the family run business has truly risen to the occasion.

Spokesman Chris Chapman said: “We set a fundraising target of £10,000 and we’re absolutely delighted that we’ve beaten this.

"This is the seventh year our staff have raised money for great causes and we’ve donated £64,000 in that time.”
