A COUNCIL is encouraging potential young voters to make sure they are registered to take part in forthcoming elections.

Ryedale District Council is raising awareness amongst young adults on registering to vote, ahead of the EU referendum.

The local authority is helping to organise a number of workshops at Malton School and students can participate in creating music videos to promote local democracy. The film will be used on social media and other media channels to raise awareness among their peers.

The music project will be supported by Billy Hickling, who has 15 years’ experience as a performer and rehearsal director with the international stage show STOMP!

The project is a follow-up to the council’s Democracy Rocks campaign in 2015.

Ryedale District Council is encouraging residents in the district to ensure they are registered to vote by Monday, April 18, so they can also take part in the forthcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections on May 5.
