A PENSIONER has died after being involved in a four-vehicle crash.

The 87-year-old local man was driving a silver Citroen Berlingo which was involved in a crash on the A64 in North Yorkshire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which happened at Low Moorgate, near Rillington at 2.10pm today.

Three other cars were involved in the crash, a blue Peugeot 206, a black Mazda and a grey Mini Cooper.

A 63-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to Scarborough District Hospital for treatment. The other two drivers were uninjured.

Fire and rescue crews from Malton and Sherburn together with the police were quickly on the scene and the road was closed in both directions between the B1249 and the B1248 near Norton-on-Derwent for several hours.

All other occupants of vehicles were out of the vehicles before the firefighters arrived and were treated at the scene by ambulance personnel.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling from Rillington towards Scarborough at the time, who may have witnessed the collision or seen the vehicles prior to the incident, to contact them on 101 and select option 1 and speak to the Force Control Room.
