SISTERS who lost their mother to cancer have taken part in a 12-hour dance-a-thon to help raise funds for a family friend suffering from the same disease.

Chloe and Kirstie Shipley have already raised £14,000 through various efforts for the charity Cancer Research since their mum, Diane who lived in Malton, died in 2001.

And the pair, helped by their cousin Kerry Myers, decided they wanted to continue their fundraising when they were told a close friend had been diagnosed with cancer.

Chloe, 25, said: “We decided to organise a dance-a-thon and dedicate it to Adam Webb, a very close family friend from Birmingham, who has been told there is no cure for his cancer, but due to Stand Up To Cancer’s trial drugs he is exceeding their predictions and doing really well.

“He aims to raise £25,000 to give back to the charity as a thank you for their support and help through his fight.

“His son Josh started a video sensation on Facebook through a YouTube video about him and Adrian so we set out a target to raise a couple of hundred pounds just to help him towards his target.”

The dance-a-thon was held at Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre, Malton, where Chloe, Kirstie and Kerry were all students for many years, and the trio raised more than £1,700.

Chloe said they were sponsored to dance for 12 hours solid which they successfully did. "It was a struggle and towards the nine hour bracket we started to become tired but the support from the day was over whelming,” she said.

“We had family and friends all make an appearance and cheer us on. The whole day was so much fun. Some people did 10 hours with us so they also were very supportive and others came and went as they pleased.”
