A NORTH Yorkshire stately home is preparing to open its doors to the festive season.

Father Christmas will call at Castle Howard in Ryedale on November 21, arriving in style in the stately home's 19th century brougham carriage.

The carriage will go on display as the country house welcomes in the festive period.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, every room of the 300 year home will be lit by candlelight and roaring log fires and hundreds of baubles and lights will decorate Christmas trees. The high saloon will be set for a sumptuous festive feast.

There will also be live daily music filling the house, including performances from classical musician Emmanuel Vass and Christmas markets in the stable courtyard until Wednesday, December 23.

There’s also a chance to meet Father Christmas himself at special "audiences with". Spaces are still available on November sessions and must be pre-booked.
