THOUSANDS braved the chilly night air to for a huge firework display in the grounds of one of the region’s grandest stately homes.

The annual Kaboom pyrotechnic display at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire took on a movie theme, synchronized to a soundtrack of James Bond themes.

The Saturday night extravaganza featured some of the most advanced techniques – including a specialist aerobatics team, flying motor gliders with firework streaming from their wing tips.

They also used LEDs to paint the sky with light in the style of Star Wars X-wing starfighters, all to music from the mega-hit space fantasy series.

And the movie theme continued with outdoor screenings of the 80s sci-fi comic adventure film Back to the Future, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, while the little ones lapped up Toy Story, celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The spectacular evening also featured a programme of family entertainment including spooky storytelling and pumpkin carving as well as fire-glow jugglers, a traditional vintage funfair, a steam organ, and seasonal Halloween and bonfire night food.
