A NEW visitor information point for the Ryedale area is now up and running in Pickering.

Following the closure of the town’s tourist information centre, the new information point has been established in Morlands Newsagents in the Market Place and is full of information on attractions, accommodation and events for local people and visitors to the area.

Free wi-fi provision also enables visitors to access VisitRyedale.co.uk for more information and to make bookings. Staff at Morlands will also sell tickets for local attractions in addition to providing information.

Manager Deeps Singh said: “Many of our customers ask about local tourist attractions and things to do, so having the VIP in the shop helps us to point them in the right direction straight away. Pickering is a popular town and we want to share its treasures with all our visitors.”

Ryedale District Council leader Cllr Linda Cowling said: “The shop is part of the social fabric of the town for residents and visitors alike.

“It's also got excellent opening times throughout the week and Deeps and his team will do a great job for local businesses, promoting Pickering and Ryedale to our visitors. We look forward to working together.”
