A RUNNING event inspired by a Hindu festival will see thousands of participants taking on 5km in an explosion of colour.

Run or Dye at Castle Howard on Saturday, August 1 is expected to attract around 2,000 runners – who will be covered head to toe in coloured dye as they go.

Katie Pryor, event manager at Castle Howard, said “Last year’s Run or Dye event proved hugely popular.

“The route which took in the parkland and hills surrounding Castle Howard was transformed into a patchwork of colour with competitors embracing the spirit of the event; a fun day out for everyone regardless of age or ability.

“This year’s Run or Dye will be bigger, better and brighter and we’re encouraging everyone to sign up and be part of the rainbow.”

Inspired by the ancient Hindu festival of Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, runners and walkers can run dressed in white or their own costumes.

As part of registration all participants will receive a goody bag with a white t-shirt and dye packs.

After crossing the finish line runners and spectators can celebrate in the Dye Festival as a full force of dye is blasted around.
