A STINGER device was used to stop a car driven by a suspected alcohol thief.
A 22-year-old man from Harrogate is suspected of stealing more than £180 worth of Disaronno from Morrisons on Harrogate Road, Ripon at 11.13am on Monday.
He is alleged to have driven off in a black Ford Fiesta which failed to stop for police as it travelled to Harrogate via Killinghall.
Police used a stinger device to deflate the tyres seven minutes later.
The driver was arrested with three passengers – a 29-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman.
The driver was charged with theft from a shop, failing to stop for the police, dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
The passengers were released with no further action.
He is due to appear at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court later this month.
