RADIO 1 DJ Scott Mills is to headline at a new three-day festival which combines street food with music and family entertainment.

The colourful StrEat Food & Family Fun Festival opens at Newby Hall, Ripon on Friday, September 22.

Street food from around the world will be served up from an array of converted horse boxes, camper vans and other unusual vehicles – offering everything from Chinese steamed buns to Jamaican Jerk chicken.

Walking among the 60 street food traders will be dinosaurs as high as double decker buses who will be roaming the festival with the help of stilt-walking street entertainers.

Live music from 16 bands will also feature.

Headlining on Friday night, dance night, will be Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills supported by Five, one of the UK’s biggest boybands alongside Huey Morgan, the charismatic front man of acclaimed rock and hip hop group Fun Lovin Criminals.

Live music entertainment will continue with pop night the following evening and funk Saturday night will feature pop night.

Huey takes to the stage on Sunday with his eclectic mix of funk, soul, reggae, cool jazz and hip hop.

Europe’s largest outdoor cinema screen will be in place on the West Lawn of Newby Hall, to keep movie buffs entertained with iconic and classic films, including a nostalgic 80s night, which can all be watched from the comfort of a hired hot tub.

The film feast includes Back to the Future, The Lost Boys, The Matrix, The Jungle Book and Jurassic Park.

Families and other festival-goers can camp over the weekend.

Also at the event will be a craft beer TeePee, serving craft ales and lagers from the Great Yorkshire Brewery at Cropton and an artisan market.

The event is the brainchild of Harrogate businesswoman, Cathy McConaghy, who swapped organising bridal shows to pursue her passion for food.

She spent more than a decade as a wedding show organiser before running a successful catering business from a retro VW campervan from May 2010 before moving to set up her street food festival business.

She will officially open the festival with the Mayor of Ripon, Pauline McHardy.
