A NORTHERN supermarket chain has issued a food safety alert over its fruit teacakes.
E H Booths, which has a store in Ripon, has recalled the product because of incorrect allergen labelling.
The supermarket has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
The Food Standards Agency said packs of four teacakes with a best before date of July 18 contain milk, which is not correctly declared on the label.
An agency spokesman said: "This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."
It advised customers: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
No other E H Booths products are known to be affected.
