THE Workhouse Museum in Ripon is celebrating summer with its annual tea party and fete - and it is free entry for all.

There will be traditional stalls, games, stocks, and trails from 11am to 4pm and those who come in fancy dress could go home with a prizes.

There will also be a chance to explore the vintage kitchen garden, which is cultivated using Victorian gardening techniques, and even choose some vegetables.

Spokesman Wendy Hunwick Brown said: “This is a free fun event with plenty of things going on to suit all ages whatever the weather.

"This is also a chance for people to have a look around the Workhouse Museum and wander round the kitchen garden. Don’t worry if its raining as there will be lots of activities under cover to enjoy, as well as the chance to take a look around this atmospheric museum too.”

And no tea party would be complete without the chance to enjoy some homemade cakes and a large pot of tea in the pop up café.

The museum is one of the UK’s best-preserved workhouse sites.
