FIRE crews from districts across North Yorkshire were called to deal with a blaze not far from the A19.
Plumes of black, acrid smoke could be seen rising into the air when a workshop off Stammergate in Thirsk caught fire at about 5.20pm on Monday.
Six fire engines from Thirsk, Helmsley, Northallerton, Bedale, Boroughbridge and Ripon all attended the blaze and used five jets and three hose reels to tackle it.
The fire is believed to have started in a shed used for a car valeting business.
It is believed the blaze in the building, which measured 50 metres by 20 metres, was started by an electrical fault, but this is still under investogation.
Fire crews had left the scene by 9pm.
