A POPULAR agricultural show is moving home for the first time in its 104-year history.

The Aldborough and Boroughbridge Agricultural Show is moving to Newby Hall, near Ripon, to enable visitors to take advantage of what the tourist attraction has to offer alongside the show.

The event, to be held on Sunday July 23, has been held on Newby land in previous years, but this is the first time it will be within the main visitor attraction site, with ticket price including entry into the award-winning gardens and adventure playground.

Organisers hope that the unique collaboration will provide the ultimate Yorkshire family day out and will give visitors the opportunity to explore local farming practices and see some of the best livestock, vintage vehicles and local produce.

Richard Compton, owner of Newby Hall said: “It is marvellous the Aldborough and Boroughbridge Show will be held in the grounds at Newby Hall.

“Visitors can take this opportunity to enjoy both a traditional Agricultural Show and the stunning gardens at Newby.

“Local farming is integral to both our heritage and landscape and it is so important to allow this community to explain how the food we eat reaches our plates.

“We are incredibly proud to be involved with the show and we feel very sure that it will go from strength to strength.”

Catherine Park Peyton, chairman of Aldborough and Boroughbridge Agricultural Show added: “We are very excited to move our wonderful agricultural show to such a superb location.

“We have previously forged very good relationships with Dishforth Airfield and its incumbents, however our new home encompasses everything that is truly wonderful about our local area and the committee are looking forward to creating a true country show experience for all the family to enjoy.”

A host of attractions will be on offer at the show along with the chance for people to show off their talents in a variety of competitions including baking, handicrafts, and horticulture.

There will be dog, cattle and sheep showing classes as well as horse and donkey classes, along with the ever-popular terrier racing. To mark its first year at its new home, there will also be an inaugural inter-village Tug of War.
